Roosevelt Dime Obverse Design Varieties

We have begun a series of studies on the Roosevelt Dime Obverse Design Varieties.  The very first year saw the first obverse design change take place.  The first obverse design (ODV-001) is recognized by a small and somewhat deformed set of designer's initials under the bust.  In addition LIBERTY is rotated slightly CCW in relation to the forehead, making the Y of LIBERTY appear farther away from the forehead.  This design is the more common of the two for the year across all mints.  The second obverse design (ODV-002) is recognized by a larger and well formed set of designer's initials under the bust.  LIBERTY is rotated so that the Y of LIBERTY appears closer to the forehead.  This design came out later in the year and is the scarcer of the two for the year across all mints.
